From the minute our children are born, we are told how fast time will go. And in those first couple of weeks, we learn how true that statement really is. We grab our cameras and video cameras. We try to make time stand still and capture all the firsts. First smile, first steps, first Christmas, first birthday, and so on. We make sure we have our camera when we go to the zoo, the park, and the museum. We take pictures during play dates and holidays. But one thing that we often forget to capture, is the every day moments. The things that make your child who he or she is. Do they wake up every morning with a massive case of bead head? Do they insist on wearing cowboy boots with their pajamas? Do they have a special blanket or stuffed animal that the carry with them everywhere? A special reading spot where they always curl up and read books? TAKE PICTURES OF IT!!! Your little girl will let you take photos of her now with that bead head, but not so much when she is 13! Plan a time when you are going to capture this every day moment and takes lots of photos. Take photos from different angles, some photos of just the item, and don't worry so much about getting your little one to look at the camera and smile. Just let them be in the moment, and I promise you will capture it!
I had this reminder the other day when Emma Grace's beloved "bear" almost lost his head. She has had bear literally since the day she was born. It has become her security item and he is well loved. The other day we noticed that bear's head was hanging on by a couple of threads, and since I can't sew on a button, our good friend, Stephanie, came to the rescue. Once bear was fixed, I wanted to make sure and get photos of Emma with her bear. I know there will come a day when she either out grows bear, or bear is beyond repair, but at least we will have these photos to look back on.
